Dinatolo’s narrative combines familiar elements of horror with a modern perspective on societal issues. There's something reminiscent of zombies present, though I felt strongly reminded of "Night Of The Demons" during the initial portion of the film. The dialogue feels somewhat unpolished, and more development for the characters would have been beneficial; still, there are some genuinely interesting parts to be found. "Face Of Evil" truly stands out in a few particularly well-executed scenes. I was struck by the main character’s trance-like gaze fixed on the singer during the bar scene, the car journey through skid row accompanied by a radio broadcast, and the significant reveal at the film's conclusion as the man grappled with understanding what was happening. These are powerful moments both in terms of storytelling and acting ability. The special effects clearly highlight the film’s limited budget. The preference for CGI over practical methods somewhat diminished the horror atmosphere that the movie nearly achieves. While some effects are effective, "Face Of Evil" is strongest visually due to its cinematography; it's very stylized and atmospheric, which reinforces the classic horror influences. Ultimately, “Face Of Evil” may not satisfy many mainstream horror enthusiasts, but those who appreciate low-budget, independent films will likely discover as much to like as dislike. If you’re willing to put aside your skepticism and embrace a complete fantasy, you can also recognize and connect with the film's genuine message about mental health struggles and our veterans.
