I wasn’t aware this was a Christian movie until after I started watching it; I assumed I was getting a small-budget psychological thriller, but what I got was something far worse. I don’t practice any religion and can usually tolerate movies with religious themes as long as they aren't overly preachy—and this one certainly did preach—but that isn’t the main reason for my low rating. It deserves a negative assessment because it falls short in nearly every technical, logical, and entertaining way. There are so many problems with this movie that I hardly know where to begin. Despite a lot of clumsy explanations, the plot is largely incomprehensible. Characters behave and speak inexplicably, except when their actions are motivated by faith or its absence. It’s essentially about a father and son who flee from an evil government official—who seems as harmless as a box of tissues—and encounter people with faith who help them, while others without faith create obstacles. There's no nuance; the Christians are portrayed as good, and everyone else is bad. Every character feels like a tired cliché seen in better films. The lack of any real danger or suspense stems from the expectation that divine intervention will always resolve any trouble. The film’s production quality is poor; long tracking shots appear shaky and amateurish due to inadequate equipment. There are numerous instances of illogical situations, such as hiding behind a log when an enemy could easily see you. A sniper who can accurately shoot someone in the head from a moving vehicle through the windshield seemingly cannot hit other passengers because he’s positioned slightly to the side—apparently, the devil deflected his bullet around the front of the car. That explanation is just as nonsensical as the rest of the movie. The dialogue feels forced and cheesy, delivered awkwardly by actors who seem eager to do well but lack the necessary skills. One particularly irritating element is Embry Johnson’s performance as Caleb. He sounds like a teenager going through puberty, with a voice that cracks constantly—like an awkward, acne-covered character from The Simpsons. His delivery is incredibly distracting and unpleasant, and his acting isn't much better. It would have been preferable to wait for his voice to mature or cast someone else; every line he speaks is grating. This film is a complete waste of time, pure trash, and I only watched it all the way through out of sheer stubbornness. Now, just thinking about it makes me angry!
