A former Interpol agent living in Los Angeles, portrayed by Franco Columbu, is drawn back to his native Sardinia to confront a group of drug traffickers causing trouble there. “Baretta’s Island,” released in 1993, is a crime thriller made on a limited budget and filmed primarily on an island off the coast of Italy. Columbu, known for his friendship with Arnold Schwarzenegger and occasional appearances in his films—like his role as a Pictish scout in “Conan the Barbarian” (1982)—takes the lead here. Schwarzenegger himself makes a brief appearance during a tedious weightlifting scene at the start of the movie. While only 5’5”, Columbu is easy to root for, despite not being particularly skilled as an actor. A significant draw for viewers, beyond the attractive scenery of the island locations, is Elizabeth Kaitan's performance as Linda. She was considered beautiful and charming throughout her career in lower-budget films between roughly 1983 and 1997, with credits including “Necromancer” (1988) and “Nightwish” (1989). In this film, she’s often seen wearing loose jeans or tight denim, but there's also a memorable scene featuring her in a yellow bikini, and a brief nude swimming sequence at the very end alongside the main character. The movie has a running time of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and was filmed mostly in Ollolai, Nuoro, Sardinia, Italy—Columbu’s hometown—along with other Sardinian locations, as well as Las Vegas, Nevada, and Los Angeles.
