Rako Prijanto’s first film as a director, Ungu Violet, tells an intriguing story, but it doesn't quite manage to stick with you because the filmmaking feels inconsistent and the actors don’t seem to connect well. The storyline is presented in an orderly fashion, however, the rhythm of events seems off-kilter, and some plot holes along with contrived surprises diminish the viewing experience. Even though the performers are recognizable and do a reasonably good job, the movie doesn't quite succeed in creating a unified and absorbing story; it’s still acceptable to watch if you prefer straightforward narratives.
