Tyrone Power is easy on the eyes, but beyond that, this film feels like a fairly formulaic and somewhat propagandistic portrayal of the Royal Air Force’s operations against Germany in the early years of World War II. To maintain an appearance of impartiality, the United States would transport aircraft to the Canadian border, where they were then hauled across into Canada before being flown on to Britain. "Tim Baker" (Power), a pilot eager to participate, is one such individual. His desire intensifies when he learns that his former girlfriend, "Carol" (Betty Grable), is also in the UK, and he decides to try and win her back. However, she’s moved on from his irresponsible behavior and has developed feelings for his superior, "Morley" (John Sutton), who resides in a grand estate in Kent – an estate that isn't even as old as the oldest house in her hometown! There is some spark between Carol and Morley, and Reginald Gardiner provides a genuinely amusing supporting performance. Still, the writing feels stiff, and Grable doesn’t have enough opportunities to showcase her vibrant personality. The action sequences are well-shot, despite being largely filmed in a studio setting. Viewers familiar with Rathbone and Bruce's "Sherlock Holmes" series might notice an early cameo from Dennis Hoey ("Lestrade"). It fulfills its basic purpose, and nothing more.
