I was surprised by how evenhanded this film is. It doesn’t solely place blame on Koresh, nor does it exclusively fault the ATF or government agencies; instead, it gives considerable attention to both perspectives with a measured approach. It's the initial documentary I’ve encountered that avoids completely condemning Koresh. For the first time, people are presented who actively argue in his favor, and they make a fairly convincing case, even though he remains clearly eccentric. The film ultimately suggests that intervention was necessary due to allegations of child abuse, but the ATF exceeded its authority and infringed upon rights in the process. Ultimately, it creates an impression that both sides were deeply flawed, which is something you don’t frequently see when dealing with this topic.
