The film bears a strong resemblance to black-and-white works reminiscent of Jacques Tati, presenting a brief story centered on “Belmondo” (Kris Marshall), who embodies the persona of a stylish and sophisticated young Parisian, drawing inspiration from his more famous counterpart. Impeccably dressed, smoking cigarettes with grace, and speaking basic French, he accompanies his younger sister and her friend to see a movie. The film itself is in French, eliciting boredom from nearly everyone present, and upon exiting the cinema, he finds himself embroiled in a scuffle where he encounters “Zazie” (Camilla Rutherford), whom he believes is meant to be his soulmate and inspiration. Or perhaps he’s simply a Brit named “Trevor,” lost in fantasy? Marshall's performance is well-suited to the role, and initially, it offers an amusing imitation of French culture and affectation; however, even with its ten-minute length, there’s excessive filler that hinders the central idea, and I felt it would benefit from a more concise edit. A lively musical score accompanies the action, and its appealingly unusual visual style makes it worthwhile to view.
