Lionel Atwill’s portrayal of the criminologist provides considerable charm and helps to maintain the brisk tempo of this blackmail story. His investigation into a murder aims to stop the impending execution of a woman he thinks has been unfairly found guilty. Complicating things further, the man assigned to carry out the death sentence is her intended husband. The musical accompaniment feels disconnected from the film’s speed, but apart from that, it delivers an hour of engaging suspense. It's barely worth seeing.
