The presence of Tyrone Power lends a certain flair to the story about a young man named “Ben” (originally portrayed by Roddy McDowall) who loses his birthright due to the greed of his uncle, "Sir Arthur," played by George Sanders. Ben’s early years were marked by hardship under his uncle's harsh rule, and he eventually runs away on a ship bound for the South Seas. There, alongside his companion “Caleb” (John Carradine), he accumulates a substantial wealth in pearls before returning home aboard a Dutch frigate. Now financially secure, he’s able to confront the man who wronged him and reclaim what is rightfully his: his title, property, and the affections of "Isobel" (Frances Farmer), the daughter of his deceitful uncle. The film does move at a slow pace occasionally, but entertaining appearances from Elsa Lanchester and Dudley Digges as the clever “Benjamin Pratt” help to lead into some energetic fighting scenes and a resolution that feels appropriate for the narrative.
