I’ve always considered this one of my favorite "Dr. Who" episodes. The TARDIS lands on the jungle world of "Chloris," and the crew quickly finds themselves taken into custody by "Karela" (played by Eileen Way), who serves as the chief enforcer for "Lady Adrasta" (Myra Frances, giving a delightfully over-the-top performance). What’s puzzling is the presence of what seems to be a gigantic egg on the surface, and the “Doctor” (Tom Baker) suspects it might still be living. Fortunately, "Romana" (Lalla Ward) manages to get away during the chaos and stumbles upon a group of warriors who are focused on gathering the planet’s most valuable resource: metal! Predictably, this makes “K9,” laser gun included, quite valuable as well. As the story unfolds, we discover more about "Adrasta's" unsettling nature and the being residing in a deep pit—a place where she disposes of her adversaries, who then disappear without a trace. The sets aren’t particularly striking; they feel theatrical, but I appreciated the story’s distinctive quality and its packed plot, providing ample chances for Baker to be wry and for "K9" to have moments in the spotlight. There's a man covered in lather wielding a whip, some sweeping tumbleweed, and a creature that must have caused quite a stir for people like Mary Whitehouse back then. I found it entertaining.
