This four-part narrative features Tom Baker alongside his advanced companion Romana (Mary Tamm), who find themselves affected by a temporal anomaly. This sends them to a planet out of its proper location, under the dominion of the threatening Captain (Bruce Purchase). He maintains control with an authoritative hand, utilizing a robotic falcon and his loyal but weary assistant, Mr. Fibuli (Andrew Robertson). As the storyline unfolds, it’s revealed that this is merely the exterior of a world that journeys through space and time, consuming other planets to extract their minerals—though not for financial gain, but for something far more sinister. Will the Doctor uncover the reason behind this planet's actions before it devours others, including Earth? While perhaps less recognized than some, I consider this series among my top choices, largely because of Purchase’s performance; he repeatedly calls out to "Mr. Fibuli," reminiscent of Captain Bligh. The “Mentiads,” a group seemingly peaceful mystics possessing telepathic abilities, also make an appearance, along with K9's predictably engaging participation in a rather pleasant confrontation with his aerial duplicate. Baker injects a sense of playful energy into his portrayal, and the special effects are effective for their era as they search for the second fragment of the elusive "Key to Time."
