Having experienced her initial journey alongside the Doctor in the TARDIS, "Sarah Jane" (Elisabeth Sladen) finds herself more centrally involved as she and the "Doctor" (Jon Pertwee) encounter a London that has been emptied due to dinosaur attacks. Following a disagreement with military personnel regarding a fur coat, they reconnect with "UNIT" and assist the "Brigadier" (Nicholas Courtney) in uncovering the truth. A curious element is that these enormous creatures materialize briefly before vanishing; they don't inflict significant harm, merely causing alarm among the populace. With both the armed forces and political figures entangled and uncertainty surrounding who to believe, it’s evident that a conspiracy is at play—but who is orchestrating it and for what purpose? I personally preferred "Dr. Who" when its stories unfolded in outer space against diverse adversaries. The narratives set within the UK didn't consistently resonate as effectively. They possessed considerable freedom on distant planets, but this particular scenario felt somewhat contrived and bordering on absurd as it progressed through six installments. Director Paddy Russell’s intention appeared to be providing Sladen with a more prominent role, yet Pertwee’s presence feels limited, which ultimately detracted from the story's impact. The special effects appear low-budget, potentially explaining why there are few monster appearances; furthermore, by its conclusion, it seemed to fall into predictable patterns of repetition. It isn’t among my favorites.
