It’s difficult to see how far Mickey Rooney’s undeniable appeal can carry this movie before it loses some steam. He portrays the central character, a young man back from wartime deeply in love with “Kay” (Bonita Granville). His happy parents (Fay Holden and Lewis Stone) greet him warmly, even noticing his newfound sense of self-reliance. However, he’s surprised to discover that his sweetheart's affections are directed toward someone else. What follows is a mildly humorous sequence of events that elicit smiles, though not consistent laughter, and which become tiresome rather quickly. Aside from Dorothy Ford’s appearance as his friend “Coffy,” who has a distinctive voice and striking height, and Lewis Stone’s respectable performance as his father, the film wouldn't be much more than pleasant, uncomplicated entertainment from after the war. As it stands, though, it functions primarily as a well-structured showcase for Rooney’s spirited personality, and like most of the other "Andy" movies, is mostly destined to be forgotten.
