The film presents a spirited take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s story of daring exploits set in Scotland following the unsuccessful Jacobite uprising—a period when many wealthy families tried to remain neutral amidst conflict. Errol Flynn is very good and joined by Roger Livesey, who also delivers an excellent performance. The narrative follows Flynn's character as he aligns himself with the losing faction, necessitating his concealment among pirates, where he experiences numerous escapades before eventually returning to Durisdeer. There, he aims to recover what’s rightfully his and resolve conflicts involving the women in his life. It makes for a pleasant, vibrant historical adventure that isn’t overly demanding of the viewer's attention.
