The movie feels lifeless, dragging out its 131 minutes. I’m fond of Brian Keith as an actor, but he seemed to be consistently cast in Disney’s lesser films, didn't he? Excluding *'The Parent Trap'*, his previous movies with the studio have been only moderately enjoyable, despite his abilities. *'Those Calloways'* suffers from pacing issues and lacks characters you can truly connect with. The central family has a conflict built around them being against hunting, yet their entire existence revolves around it. While there’s a distinction in their reasons for doing so, the contrast isn't significant – the film doesn’t even suggest they dislike hunting. The cast is serviceable; Keith stands out as Cam, while Brandon deWilde (Bucky), Ed Wynn (Ed), and Walter Brennan (Alf) are adequate. The villains, however, are easily overlooked. Given the movie’s length, they have very little to do beyond a single scene. Several moments would have benefited from music, especially those featuring Bucky and Whit (Tom Skerritt). There's an effort to convey a worthwhile theme, but it doesn’t quite succeed. I wouldn’t suggest seeing this film, even though it isn’t offensively bad.
