The story unfolds during the Christmas season in East Willard, Massachusetts, where two siblings visit their older brother’s burial place and find themselves staying with a local family. There, they discover the legend of Black Peter, who is described as Santa Claus's darker counterpart. However, what proves truly disturbing is a lost journal belonging to Jeffrey Butler, which details the town’s unsettling history. "Silent Night, Bloody Night 2: Revival," released in 2015, serves as a follow-up to the initial film created 43 years prior. It's important to note that it isn't related to the independently produced British remake from 2013, titled “Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming,” which was made with an extremely limited budget of $20,000. This sequel clearly operated under severe financial constraints; while I couldn’t locate a precise figure, even if we estimate it to be as high as $50,000, that's still a remarkably small sum for a movie production. The original film was filmed between December 1970 and March 1971, carrying a cost of $295,000—equivalent to roughly $2.3 million in today’s money, demonstrating it possessed considerably more resources than this one did. Unfortunately, that difference is noticeable. While Julia Farrell delivers a commendable performance as Angelica Zacherly, the rest of the cast struggles with subpar acting and uninspired writing. The film also suffers from unattractive visuals, failing to capture the unsettling atmosphere present in its predecessor. It's concerning when previously existing scenes from the original movie become some of the most engaging elements. Speaking of those earlier scenes, approximately one-third of this film’s running time is composed of footage taken from that initial production—a characteristic reminiscent of “Silent Night, Deadly Night 2.” The fact that these reused portions are presented in sepia tone is a minor positive. I would only suggest watching this if you're an extremely dedicated fan of the first movie and are prepared to accept a very low-budget independent film. The total runtime clocks in at around one hour and 27 minutes, and filming took place in Nebraska, which seems like an odd choice compared to New England—the original was filmed near Oyster Bay on Long Island’s north shore.
