Following a car crash leaving young “Soo-hyun” (Yoon-ho Ji) in a coma, his mother “Mi-Kyung” (Bae Jong-ok) finds herself dealing with both her troubled marriage and the urgent need to support her son’s recovery. The other person involved in the accident, “Yong-joon” (Lee Won-geun), escaped without injury, but she's unwilling to engage with him. What unfolds over a couple of hours—moving at an unhurried pace—is a gradual understanding of what her son was like. He had been keeping something hidden, and his mother is struggling to accept it. Whether it’s due to embarrassment or trickery remains unclear; she moves him to a hospital far from everything, only for “Soo-Hyun” to appear as if he's searching for direction. He even finds work there doing odd jobs, but the question lingers: will this injured man ever fully heal, and can his mother overcome her reserved yet firm rejection of his friend—a man himself clearly experiencing considerable trauma? Much of the film involves extended periods of stillness, limited conversation, and a general lack of overt action. However, director Dong-Eun Lee manages to create an emotionally resonant experience through flashbacks depicting the boys’ friendship and showcasing sensitive performances from both actors. At its core, it's about these two individuals beginning to truly understand each other, presented with empathy but avoiding excessive sentimentality. There’s one moment where the patient receives a haircut from his friend, and I briefly thought perhaps they should have gone to a professional; however, that might be the closest thing to humor in this film. It's an observation about the intensity of parental love and how challenging it can be when confronted with the possibility of competition. The movie unfolds deliberately, but ultimately rewards the viewer’s patience.
