Greigh Johanson on Slaughter Disc

6/10 · Oct 3, 2012

**Slaughter Disc**, penned by **David Quitmeyer** over fifteen years ago—originally titled "**The Tape**"—pushes every limit imaginable. The combination of explicit content and bestial elements might be unsettling; it could even elicit a physical reaction. Despite the presence of actual pornography, I found myself largely overlooking that aspect as the film managed to impress me considerably. It feels like the ultimate cinematic experience, and visually, it's quite remarkable. Typically, low-budget productions suffer from poor audio and video quality, but this one defied expectations with surprisingly high production values. **David Quitmeyer** finished the project on a budget just exceeding $10,000. The film was shot in **MiniDV** format, and its effects range from rudimentary blue screen and CGI to impressive, handcrafted visuals. The performers, who appear to be amateurs from drama school, deliver commendable performances. The music featured throughout is by **Peter Gorritz**, of the gothic band "**The Last Dance**," and contributes significantly to the film’s dark and immersive atmosphere. I suspect that many fans of extreme horror will find something to enjoy in this movie; it's a genuinely unique experience. While I would have liked to see more dismemberment, gore, and viscera, what is presented isn’t likely to disappoint.
