It’s hard to imagine *Meera Jakirathai* would have attracted much attention if not for the recent dispute involving Bobby Simhaa. He claimed the film was shot as a small project without any intention of it becoming a full-length feature, and honestly, anyone watching will likely feel he has a point. The movie begins with a basic, unsuccessful establishing shot of a bridge—identified as 'Kayaar paalam'—which is known for the terrible deaths that have occurred nearby. A visual communication student becomes interested in this and plans to create a short film about it, assembling a group of four people. These eager individuals set out to collect information about the bridge, supposedly located somewhere along the Chennai-Puducherry route. They discover that a supernatural force or ghost is responsible for the unsolved murders. Eventually, it’s revealed that these mysterious killings are part of an effort to avenge a severe injustice done to the spirit's former self. In doing so, the film falls into line with numerous others that have tried this tired and overused plot device. The misdeeds committed by Sivanesan (Bobby Simhaa) and his friends result in a family member being possessed by the malevolent spirit. How the ghost enacts its revenge and what motivates it are left for viewers to find out—but only if they can endure this experience. Monica, who is billed as the female lead, doesn’t appear until the second half of the film and performs adequately in her brief role as a girl planning to run away with her lover. ‘Lollu Sabha’ Swaminathan was brought in for two scenes intended to provide comic relief, but he fails to deliver, although it's not really his fault. The editing by Shyjith Kumaran is distracting throughout the film, making it difficult to watch even though it runs less than two hours. Raja’s music score is best left unmentioned. The actors, primarily newcomers, are unremarkable; they can hardly be blamed since there was little opportunity for them to shine. The unbelievable ending, combined with a suggestion of a sequel, just adds insult to injury.
