Joko Anwar’s first time directing a movie, Janji Joni, presents an exceptionally well-constructed narrative unfolding over just one day, with performances that really grab your attention—particularly Nicholas Saputra's—and characters connected in interesting ways. The story moves along nicely and keeps you engaged, enhanced by appropriate music and a more complex storyline than you might initially expect; however, there are some points where the timing and distances between places don’t quite add up. Even with these small imperfections, Janji Joni is an enjoyable and striking film that I'd gladly watch again.
