A familiar pattern from the nineteen fifties sees an American actor with moderate recognition imported to boost ticket sales for a British crime film of average cost. This time, Dane Clark takes on the role of the struggling "Morrow." He encounters the attractive "Phyllis Brunner" (Belinda Lee) in a pub, and she gets him intoxicated before proposing marriage in exchange for £500. Predictably, he agrees to this seemingly sensible request from a woman he’d only met four hours earlier (!), but is startled when he awakens the following morning, feeling groggy, in an artist's studio covered in blood. The question of whose blood remains unanswered for some time. He soon learns that his new father-in-law was killed less than twelve hours prior and that he’s now considered the main person of interest. Will he be able to figure out what occurred before law enforcement arrives—and, naturally, disbelieves—his account? Clark delivers a decent performance, but the storyline is overly convoluted; it risks becoming tangled in its own complexity. This also contributes to a sluggish pace, with several scenes that don’t advance the narrative and only slow things down further. It's not terrible, but it feels drawn out and isn’t something you’re likely to recall after viewing.
