Arthur Askey’s performance makes for an enjoyable film. The plot involves his character being moved from the BBC in London to a remote lighthouse where he's tasked with establishing a weather station. Predictably, his new surroundings are damp, blustery, and rather bleak. Following a familiar pattern seen in "Whisky Galore," a shipwreck occurs. However, instead of alcohol washing ashore, it’s a group of attractive women who become stranded, leaving him completely flustered. His initial pleasure doesn't last long when the women begin to vanish. The mystery of their disappearance prompts an investigation that quickly draws him into a complicated Nazi scheme with potentially significant consequences for the war effort. While perhaps stretched out a bit and slow to start, the film allows Askey’s comedic talent and impeccable timing to shine as he commands attention with his charm and physical humor. It serves as a nostalgic look at what entertained audiences during wartime, and despite its obvious predictability, it remains an agreeable viewing experience, also featuring pleasant appearances from Googie Withers and Moore Marriott.
