It’s difficult to know where to begin with this. It would be simple to dismiss it entirely; frankly, it's terrible – pretty much across the board. For reasons that aren’t obvious, it received a digital restoration in 2011, although whether it was ever properly “mastered” initially is questionable, and the process seems only to have worsened the already poor quality of production. A meteor crashes into the isolated area called "Crater Lake," and suddenly "Nessie" appears for a holiday from Loch Ness, stopping along the way to eat the people in the nearby town. The plot itself isn't particularly original, but that’s not really the problem; it’s the execution that is so bad. The awkward performances wouldn’t be quite as noticeable if they weren’t accompanied by choppy editing done with such an amateur hand that it highlights how ridiculous the script is, a soundtrack seemingly taken from a 1960s advertising agency's storage room, and visual effects that look more like modeling clay than anything inspired by Ray Harryhausen. There are too many characters to divert attention from the weak storyline, attempts at humor feel painfully forced, and running over 85 minutes, it feels much longer than it needs to be! It’s almost worth seeing just so you can get a sense of how bad things can be and put truly awful movies into their proper place.
