“Screaming Mimi” is a low-budget exploitation film that, surprisingly, turns out to be more enjoyable than it should be. That’s not exactly high praise, though. The movie is largely ridiculous, makes an obvious attempt at being a late addition to the Film Noir genre, and generally appears awkward and poorly made. However, it didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would be, and while Ekland wasn't going to win any awards, she did have some good scenes, particularly toward the end. The storyline was somewhat confusing—I never really understood what the purpose of those three statues were—though that could be because I had it on in the background while I was doing housework. It’s interesting how all these older men ended up working alongside Ekland; things must have been different back then. “Devil” the dog was the only character who truly captured my interest.
