It’s possible you weren’t around in 1968, or maybe didn’t experience it the way some did, but I was living in the Chicago suburbs back then. I was nine years old and completely unaware of what was going on. There were significant disturbances in Chicago that year—following Dr. King's death and during the Democratic National Convention—and my parents, raising four children at the time, found it a frightening period. For me, it was just something I saw on television; I didn’t grasp that these events were actually occurring close to where I lived. It took watching this documentary for that realization to hit me. The first viewing left me feeling somewhat stunned. A lot of memories resurfaced—things I'd completely forgotten over the years. I realize documentaries aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I really suggest giving this one a try. If you feel like things are very fractured and polarized currently, taking a look at what unfolded in 1968 might offer some valuable context.
