This unassuming crime story proved to be rather enjoyable. The narrative focuses on "Insp. Darrow" (Leslie Perrins) and his inquiries into the death of a rich individual, who had many potential people involved. Complicating matters are two different periods in time, separated by World War I, and the existence of a seemingly reduced collection of valuable jewels that were meant to be held for the deceased's son, as the effort to uncover what happened intensifies. It’s clear production costs were limited, and the filming schedule was tight—at times, the visuals feel somewhat still, but it moves along at a decent pace and stands out as a fairly engaging early British sound film.
