"Casual Sex?" appeared in 1988 and centers on two young women, Stacy (Lea Thompson) and Melissa (Victoria Jackson), who visit a health resort seeking a "safe" partner amidst the emergence of AIDS concerns. One has experience with relationships while the other is relatively new to intimacy. She begins a relationship with a musician (Stephen Shellen), and she connects with a gentle massage therapist (Jerry Levine). Andrew Dice Clay also appears in the film. It's a generally enjoyable 80s romantic comedy, surprisingly mild considering its title. Thompson delivers her characteristic charming performance, though I find her physique somewhat too slender; Jackson is more effective using her distinctive voice, but her character feels overly stereotypical. Despite this, they are both agreeable enough to watch. Surprisingly, Dice Clay’s portrayal of Vinny, a particularly grating guest at the resort, proves memorable, and his character undergoes an interesting development. The film explores romance and sexuality in the 1980s from a female perspective, making it more appealing to women than men. I didn't find it as engaging, but males might still consider seeing "Casual Sex?" because the male characters feel authentic and Dice Clay’s performance and his storyline are worthwhile. The film has a running time of 97 minutes and was filmed in Los Angeles. GRADE: C+
