The film brought to mind "The Silver Fleet," another production from 1943, which also examined difficult questions about individuals who exploited their roles within the Nazi regime to aid the Resistance or assist British prisoners in escaping. The performers are capable, though not exceptional; John Clements and Godfrey Tearle, playing the Mayor, head the cast as they navigate a precarious situation alongside his daughter, Marie, portrayed by Greta Gynt. Yvonne Arnaud delivers commendable support, as do the antagonists—Karel Stepanek, Hugh Sinclair, and Herbert Lom in a very short role—all of which contribute to keeping the story progressing at a good pace, even if it lacks a truly unique feel, ultimately reaching a completely acceptable resolution.
