It had been quite some time since my last viewing, but even with its three-hour runtime, the movie didn’t feel long at all; I was really drawn in for most of it (though I did need to pause occasionally for refreshments). The acting across the board was excellent, particularly from Tom Cruise, Melora Walters, John C. Reilly, and young Jeremy Blackman as Stanley. It does become a bit obvious with its messaging, and while I understand the purpose of the scene involving raining frogs, it disrupted my engagement somewhat (though that occurred later on). I’d give it **4.0/5**. The other two children in the film, Julia and Richard, seemed to be relying on Stanley to do all the work; that's something that bothered me even when I first saw it.
