I continue to value its essence, considering both the low-budget production and the playful attitude. It would be wonderful if contemporary movies could capture even a small part of this cheerful and impish style. Studios could certainly benefit from observing it, especially given today’s trend toward massive films costing hundreds of millions of dollars. I personally don't want what one critic described as an overly stimulating visual experience. I’d rather watch this again than any of the poorly executed, money-driven holiday movies released over the last thirty years (I consider ‘A Christmas Story’, and maybe ‘Elf’ and 'National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation', to be among the few well-made Christmas films). However, don't simply accept what I say...view it yourself (without the unnecessary and patronizing MST3K commentary) and decide for yourself.
