Those who appreciate classic black and white comedies from the thirties and forties have likely encountered this film before—I certainly had, quite a while back, but I recently revisited it, and found it to be enjoyable. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy are both excellent in their roles, performing as they typically do. He portrays a husband and father who appears clever occasionally, though also somewhat foolish at other times; he clearly cares for his family, but teases them when circumstances aren’t ideal, although not in the way that modern sensibilities might find upsetting. Myrna is familiar from The Thin Man series, and she's perfectly suited to this type of role, delivering many of her lines with a dry delivery, though it's worth paying attention to her expressions—she conveys a great deal without appearing to exert any effort. Certain plot points are foreseeable, yet I still frequently laughed, even when I knew what was going to happen next. The script is very good. It’s not an action-packed spectacle, but it offers gentle and inoffensive entertainment, which is sometimes exactly what I'm looking for.
