If you’re searching for something other than the typical Tamil film formula—you know, the standard hero, heroine, villain, revenge plot—Darling is an excellent choice. It really feels like a unique offering in Tamil cinema. I'm not sure “horror comedies” were common before Darling arrived; there might have been some attempts, but they probably weren’t as successful. My initial issue was the lack of subtitles, but thankfully Herotalkies.com legally provided them on their website a couple of weeks later, and in 1080p quality no less. The scenes featuring Ghost Gopal Varma were definitely highlights—lots of jokes playing off Kalidas's absurdity. G.V. Prakash’s acting debut was surprisingly strong; he managed to deliver believable expressions. Beyond the performances, the music is also quite good. And Skype exorcism? That felt genuinely fresh. Many might not consider this a particularly outstanding film, but I think it warrants recognition and praise.
