It’s been difficult to locate a film quite as disappointing as "Mesa of Lost Women" (1953), but I believe I may have succeeded. The story involves balloonists who arrive on an isolated island and encounter attractive women in revealing outfits, alongside some awkwardly designed creatures. It turns out the island is part of a large-scale project managed by the granddaughter of “Dr. Frankenstein,” who has married the child of "Dr. Van Helsing"—though he’s confined to his bed, and her focus is on restoring him to health. With guidance from seemingly all-knowing visions featuring John Carradine, the film progresses without any clear direction, showcasing a surprisingly advanced laboratory setting and a truly terrible script that seems to have prompted Jerry Warren to adopt the pseudonym "Jaques Lecouter," perhaps as an effort to disassociate himself from this mess or to lend some false sophistication to the writing. Ultimately, none of that makes a difference—it’s simply awful—and the conclusion features a machine gun that should have appeared much earlier in the film.
