Wuchak on The Watchers: Revelation

6/10 · Nov 7, 2024

This is a reasonably enjoyable film made on a small budget that combines science fiction elements with themes drawn from Biblical accounts. The story centers around an archeological excavation at the Cahokia burial mounds in southwestern Pennsylvania, where a tablet surfaces connected to the Anunnaki—a group believed to be technologically advanced extraterrestrials who have dealings with world leaders, even the President of the United States. As their intentions and agenda become clear, they pursue those involved in uncovering them, including a young girl who is exceptionally gifted at just nine years old. “The Watchers: Revelation” (2013) was produced independently for only $50,000. Another film, “Beyond the Darkness,” also known as “Heaven’s War” (2018), was actually filmed earlier but wasn't released until seven years later because of delays in adding computer-generated imagery—which were surprisingly well done considering it wasn't a major studio production. I bring up that movie to point out that this one shares similar qualities, though with an even smaller budget. Nevertheless, the special effects are adequate. I didn’t notice any problems with the performances, unlike some viewers; those who frequently watch films made on extremely limited budgets might not be as critical. When you're working with just $50,000, the priority is to get the scenes filmed and move on. You can’t afford to spend time waiting for perfect acting because every minute costs money in this kind of production. Ultimately, it’s a watchable, low-budget science fiction film featuring an engaging narrative that incorporates information about the Sumerian Anunnaki and Igigi. Kaitlin Lory delivers a good performance as the blonde lead character, Sarah, and Carissa Dallis is charming as the girl, Kara. The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 30 minutes and was filmed in locations near Dayton, Ohio, including Kettering, Trenton, and Hamilton. GRADE: B-/C+
