Two male siblings, who both identify as gay, are raised by their father alone. One brother, Todd (played by Frankie Valenti), leaves home to embrace his identity openly. Following their father's death, he goes back and discovers that his more introverted, homebound brother, Chet (Mark Strano), is managing the family’s hardware store. The movie explores the brothers’ bond—both as it exists presently and through recollections of their earlier years—and attempts to understand the roots of their complex mix of affection and animosity. It doesn't offer anything particularly fresh; the acting is adequate, relying on familiar character tropes, and the resolution feels predictable. While the film boasts a respectable level of production quality and touches upon societal views and preconceived notions, these observations would likely have carried more weight if the story unfolded in a place like Iowa instead of California, which tends to be more progressive. Gregory Marcel provides some visual appeal, but ultimately, this is just another familiar narrative about family reconnection with a gay storyline that’s easily passed over.
