It’s an exceptionally well-done thriller featuring solid acting from Ann Harding and Basil Rathbone. The plot involves Harding winning a large sum in the lottery, requiring her to journey to Paris for collection. Her partner, Ronnie (played by Bruce Seton), finds it difficult to adjust to her newfound wealth, which far exceeds his own prospects; meanwhile, she encounters Rathbone’s character, who is seeking to lease her apartment. Before long, Ronnie is out of the picture and Harding's character and Gerald are traveling through Europe with her considerable money. The film primarily focuses on their relationship, which feels problematic from the beginning – it's evident that he has ulterior motives (as is typical for an Agatha Christie story), and these intentions quickly become clear, placing her in a dangerous situation. It’s skillfully adapted and moves along at a good pace, with well-defined characters that prevent it from becoming overly sentimental. While not frequently shown anymore, I would recommend checking it out.
