Dédalo is a science fiction horror short film from Portugal. I generally like alien horror movies, and this one definitely falls into that category. The production values—specifically the set design, props, and lighting—are impressive, particularly considering it's a short film; these elements really enhance the viewing experience. While some of the gore effects and the appearance of the alien creature aren’t top-notch, they don’t ruin the suspense completely. The lead actress delivers an adequate performance, and her facial expressions effectively convey the story's emotional beats. However, the way the alien moves comes across as quite corny. In a short film that relies so much on building tension, even small amounts of cheesiness can undermine it. The alien’s movements, particularly following what seems to be the high point of the plot, lessen the impact and leave the ending feeling rather bland instead of delivering the intended emotional effect from the director. Despite this, most aspects of the film work well, including the concept of a man-eating alien that still resembles a human hunting down the last member of a spaceship’s crew. If you have about ten minutes to spare, there are definitely less engaging things you could watch than Dédalo.
