The opening moments were genuinely upsetting; a parent abandoning a child, particularly a little girl, is deeply troubling. What a clever distraction, skillfully executed by whoever—or whatever—the antagonist is. There’s something profoundly unsettling and unpleasant about this movie that really gets under your skin. I found myself wanting to lash out at the screen. It creates such an odd atmosphere; I'm completely captivated by it. The film constantly disorients you, so you’re never quite certain of what direction things are taking or whether what you’re witnessing is real.
