During the French revolution’s peak, Nils Asther portrays an agent tasked with traveling to a countryside village, accompanied by a portable guillotine, to execute an aristocrat who enjoys substantial favor among the local people. Hugh Sinclair, playing "the Marquis," doesn't attempt a French accent, nor does Hazel Terry as the character accompanying Asther—a woman he saved from execution and now disguised as a boy to prevent recognition. The film unfolds as a straightforward historical drama with somewhat unsteady sets and fairly simple conversations, culminating in a predictable romantic entanglement. It appears to have been made on a very limited budget, yet it remains an agreeable historical romance.
