I've never been a fan of the slapstick humor found in the "Magoo" cartoons, but I discovered that watching his poor vision is genuinely amusing this time around. He’s asked to look after a child by some neighbors who seem to have eyesight problems themselves! He agrees and arrives completely unable to tell the difference between the kid and their dog! While he's attempting to prepare a bath, a burglar decides to take advantage of the situation. It seems doubtful that this well-dressed, near-sighted gentleman could manage to prevent flooding the house, stumbling over the pet, and stopping the thief. Seeing "Magoo" brought Herbert Lom to mind, with his fez and smoking jacket, and several of the gags still work pretty effectively because the story gets going quickly and moves along in a fun way.
