I'm not scientifically inclined, so I'm consistently impressed by documentaries that incorporate imagery seemingly pulled from science fiction—like microscopic views of cells—to illustrate the workings of our bodies. Or at least, they attempt to do so! The film aims to provide a basic explanation of cancer, covering its spread, destructive nature, and the global efforts underway to comprehend it and develop potential treatments. It’s certainly presented in an accessible way, like a “Janet and John” book, which I think is beneficial because it avoids overwhelming viewers with complex scientific terms. Occasionally, it feels a little staged; some of the doctors' looks directly into the camera seem somewhat artificial. Be aware that the film depicts animal experimentation as part of the research process, although not in a graphic manner. Ultimately, you come away with an appreciation for the magnitude of the task these scientists face, and while it’s a bit understated, it remains worthwhile viewing.
