To be honest, a more fitting title for this review would have been "E.T. with a Cyborg," but since this is an inexpensive Italian film that even reuses some of the voice actors from the 'E.T.' knockoff 'Pod People,' I thought that comparison was better suited. That being said, it’s not necessarily a bad movie. It isn't awful. Judging by the promotional images I saw online, I anticipated another strange Italian action film featuring Frank Zagarino as an invincible cyborg. The biggest shock for me, though, was discovering that this is really NOT an action movie. It’s more of a gentle children’s film with very little action—although the violence might be too intense for younger viewers. Essentially, it's about a young boy who discovers a runaway cyborg trying to escape his government creators, and the boy decides to hide him. (The boy’s voice actor – I think it’s the same person who voiced Tommy in 'Pod People,' oddly enough.) Along with the boy’s older sister, they help the cyborg understand what it means to be human and assist him in starting a new life away from dishonest government officials. Henry Silva is cast as the primary antagonist; I enjoyed his performance in 'Above the Law,' so seeing him in something different was a pleasure. There's a brief action sequence at the end, but it’s not particularly memorable. Otherwise, the film is mostly unremarkable. EXCEPT FOR—the ending. I won’t reveal any details, but I certainly wasn’t expecting the conclusion we received. It was genuinely… well... touching and heartwarming. Seriously. I was surprisingly moved (and surprised) that a movie like this could conclude on such an honest note. Although 'Cy-Warrior' isn't a landmark film, it might be worth watching if you enjoy films of this type.
