Having viewed just a portion of this documentary so far, I'm still struck by what an impressive display of brave camera work it represents. I had previously assumed the volcano was situated on an island already, but the footage reveals how the Earth actually forms new islands. The sight of steam and lava bursts rising up to three thousand feet from underwater craters is remarkable, and the closeness of the cameras to this natural power in such a far-flung place makes for captivating viewing—at least for a short while. It’s also pretty amazing that the entire film no longer exists.
