This is an unusual film that’s hard to pin down. I suspect Patrick Bokanowski meant for it to be this way, as we see animation blended with real-life footage through some almost impressionistic, still artwork for about ten minutes. There's no discernible pattern or logic to how things are put together; a strange assortment of visuals and sounds are joined. For instance, there’s the image of men moving hay alongside the sound of snooker balls, or a snowstorm covering a table visible from within a house! The film’s oddness is what makes it worthwhile – there's no rigid framework to limit the movement of ideas, and it brings to mind all sorts of things, ranging from the more risqué Hammer films to slightly more refined Disney productions. Experiencing it feels like entering an exhibit with no particular subject except the curator’s imagination—and I did find myself enjoying it.
