I can’t recall another story about the Old World Gods—the Olympians—seen through a Japanese perspective like this film offers, and I notice parallels to familiar narratives. The events unfold with an act of cruelty inflicted upon our young protagonist, Arion, though the reason for it hasn't been revealed yet, but I anticipate clarification soon. The animation style is exactly as I remember from 80s and 90s Anime—like Dragon Ball with Son Goku or A Wind Named Amnesia—it’s quite direct and energetic, along with how smoothly the characters move and the creatures in this story. Hades is presented as the ultimate manipulator and deceiver, according to what the title suggested. We'll discover just what kind of powerful, malevolent Elder God he truly is, now that Arion isn’t the child who was taken anymore, and for how long his tricks will fool him before he faces off against Hades. Arion seems quite capable and a quick fighter, but possibly lacks experience fighting humans; I'm hoping to see this evolve. Arion is currently struggling to survive, and he’s handling numerous enemies effectively. A significant confrontation is brewing with those who initially wronged young Arion, and they are formidable opponents given the size of their forces. It appears there’s no warmth or affection among these Elder Gods, and, predictably, humans are being used as tools to achieve what THEY desire. I have to say, though: I've never experienced a Greek story quite like this one, and I'm really enjoying it. If anyone has made it this far... As a long-time Anime fan since the 80s, I wonder if you think they toned down the colors to create a more atmospheric feel for the story? Or am I overthinking the film’s stylistic choices? Anime enthusiasts should definitely watch this. Fans of Greek Mythology may also find this inventive version appealing.
