This film isn’t great, yet the performers manage to work together effectively as the story plunges us into a nautical tale involving piracy and insurance scams! It begins quickly – or rather, on the ocean – with Rhonda Fleming's character, "Faith," set on retaining her share of a vessel that once belonged to her deceased father. The ship is now headed toward the island mentioned in the title, guided by three former thieves. A shipment of champagne is aboard, supposedly. Or perhaps not? Eventually, "Capt. Lochlin" (Paul Kelly) and his youthful companion "Herrick" (Rory Calhoun) join forces with her, leading to expected romantic developments, and there's the villainous "Attwater" (Alan Napier), who’s defeated in a truly silly ending. The film’s limited budget is apparent in its modest production values, but the script offers occasional amusing lines, and there's sufficient action as well. It's unlikely you’ll recall it later, however; it simply has enough adventure to carry it through about sixty minutes.
