It’s an unusual movie featuring Basil Rathbone ("Johnny"), portraying a composer who rents a cabin close to a boys' summer camp. There he meets a lively group of young boys who help him break through his creative difficulties and write what turns out to be a successful musical. I usually dislike movies that focus on children, especially when they’re also singing, but Bobby Breen ("Chip") is surprisingly talented as the boy who slowly forms a connection with Rathbone. He sings well, and his efforts to match up his mother, who has lost her husband, with the composer are both delightful and occasionally clever. The film does feel somewhat stiff in its presentation, however, and Oscar Strauss and Paul Francis Webster's lyrics stand out as something special on their own. There’s a certain purity to the story that I found appealing. It isn't exceptional, perhaps a little overly sweet – but it is still enjoyable.
