The initial portion of this short film is remarkably serene and possesses a poetic quality through its visuals. Initially, we observe the setting and its people, who become more significant later on. The community consists entirely of elderly individuals; they’ve resided there for many years, dating back to an era when those afflicted with leprosy were required to live in isolation. These residents spent their formative years within this town, forming bonds and creating families amongst themselves—though children would be taken from them shortly after birth. Now that medical advancements and political landscapes have shifted, they are no longer obligated to remain, yet they choose to do so because they lack familiarity with any other way of life. They exist there, and will continue to until their passing, meaning the town itself will disappear when the final resident is gone. It’s truly lovely.
