John Payne portrays "Dick Lindsay/Robert McAllister," and finds himself obligated by pirate captain "Barclay" (Sir Cedric Hardwicke) to pose as the nephew of his enemy, "McAllister" (Francis L. Sullivan). The goal is to get inside McAllister’s seemingly impenetrable headquarters so that it can be seized. However, while undercover, he encounters “Christine” (Arlene Dahl), and after some initial difficulties, they begin to develop a connection... It's a rather straightforward pirate story, though visually appealing. Francis L. Sullivan brings some energy to his role, but Hardwicke feels stiff, Payne resembles a lesser version of Louis Hayward, and Dahl lacks the charm one might expect from someone like Maureen O’Hara. As someone who enjoys these kinds of films, I found it acceptable for passing 90-some minutes, though it's not much more than an average matinee offering with minimal action until the final moments, which ultimately proved underwhelming.
