The performance by Kirk Morris, billed as "Maciste," is remarkably stiff in this lackluster Peplum film. He assists the youthful king "Ario" (Demeter Bitenc) in guiding his people away from their homes—as an impending volcanic eruption threatens—directly into a conflict between two opposing countries. Shortly thereafter, he becomes entangled in various schemes and must save "Queen Amoa" (Laura Brown) from her son-killing suitor, along with the leader of the headhunters, “Gunk” (Nello Pazzafini). The plot developments are fairly predictable from that point onward. It's difficult to even judge the quality of the script since the voice actors provide absolutely no attempt to develop their characters; it’s a complete absence of effort. Everything feels incredibly tedious and uninspired, despite the film appearing technically competent. The conclusion is indicative of the entire aimless production, offering virtually nothing to appeal to anyone other than dedicated fans of the genre. Morris (whose real name is Adriano Bellini) may possess the physique suitable for the part, but his face conveys an expression akin to a dog consuming acid from a cactus—and he delivers a notably unexpressive portrayal. I would advise skipping this one entirely.
